Posting Bail

So, the Blog Police arrested me - the charge: Not keeping up with my blog.

Someone must have tipped them off.

I pleaded not guilty, but since the blog is in writing it was pretty easy for them to prove that I was lying.  Anyway, some time cooling my heels later, and I'm back.

In any case - not a whole lot new, except for this little film Nick and Adam and I made for a film contest this past week.  Five days to make a five minute film start to finish.  More info can be found on Nick's blog - but luckily we got the damned thing in on time.  The screening is on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7pm - Montgomery County Community College.  More info on that can be found at www.fivedayfilmfestival.com.

Be there!  Or don't.  Up to you, really.  But, in case you can't be there, we'll hopefully be putting the extended version of the film online sometime next week.  In the meantime, you can check out the 40 second trailer for the movie.

Enjoy!
Rob

Oh yeah....Blogging

Okie dokie....so I've been a bad little blogger - in that I started a blog, wrote two entries, and then disappeared from blogging completely.  Eh, what are ya gonna do?

I'll tell ya what I'm gonna do, climb right back up on that web-laden binary horse and start blogging again.  Or at least attempt to for a while.  I'm sure that Nick will continue to yell at me if I forget.  He's good for the motivation.

Anyway, things have been about the same since last I blogged.  Still trying to get answers for this computer.  Still no tech guy living amongst the jackets in the closet.  Oh well.

But, on the plus side work is progressing on the finishing of 'Preservation', the little $1,600 (approx.) feature film that has been in the works for just over a year now.  Didn't think it would take this long, but I should have known better.  Somewhere in the back of my mind I did.

Anyway, after a marathon week of work on it last week, we're almost at picture-lock.  Which is cool.  All (mostly) of the ADR has been recorded (don't know what that is - stands for Automated Dialogue Recording, long process - but basically a way to fix scenes where the sound of the dialogue sucks for whatever reason)....so we spent five days doing that.  Now just have to spend forever and a day editing it into the movie.  We started recording sound effects and foley, and so that's good.  And we may have a music guy lined up to do the score.  Which is tooth-rotting sweet.

I spent a good deal of time working on an effects shot tonight.  There are a few of them in the movie that need to get finished.  Since I'm pretty much the effects guy on the movie as well, it kinda falls to me.  But, they'll get done in time....in time for what?  Well, the premiere my friend, the premiere....which will hopefully be sometime in mid December.  More specific date to follow.  Unless you're in the cast or crew, and then you might get an advanced screening on or very near Halloween.

Anyway, Nick said that I should do some blogs about the work that I'm doing on the movie - maybe with some pictures, etc.  It's not a bad idea.  If I can find the time, or simply REMEMBER that I have a blog, I just might do that.

Till then, catch you around!

Okay, so nobody is reading this yet - cause nobody knows it exists yet, but I feel like saying a couple of things anyway.

First off - A couple of months ago I took a giant leap of faith that my company would pull in enough money to warrant leasing a brand new editing system.  Hi-def, the works.  It costs about as much as a new SUV.  At least it doesn't run on gasoline.

Anyway, money still just barely trickles in, but so far I've been paying the bills.  I keep yelling at myself for leasing the gear, but then I also realize that if I hadn't gotten the new gear, I wouldn't have booked the last three jobs that I've been working on.  It's a bit of a catch-22.

Well I have the gear, so that's that.  At least until they repossess it.  Sadly, there have been many problems with it in the last month or so.  It's a long story, but as I've been trying to get the damned thing fixed so that I can continue to make money to pay for said damned thing, I found out that the company I got all the gear from has sort of gone out of business.  Needless to say, I was thunderstruck.  And not in the good AC/DC way.  The guy at the company said that "lawyers are doing their thing", and that another company is working out the details of purchasing the company that I'm doing business with - but where the heck does that leave me?  Screwed-ville, that's where.

In addition, some of the new software on the system (specifically Motion - a program for motion graphics) is all screwy and not working correctly.  Apple's answer, back everything up, delete the hard drive, and re-install everything.  Great advice.  Why didn't I think of that.  Must be nice to get paid to hand out gems of wisdom like that.  I called this evening to get some more info from Apple's tech support, and apparently I called after their normal business hours of 6-6pm.   Now, from my point of view, with the amount of money I'm spending on this, I should practically have a tech guy living in my hallway closet.  Since Apple doesn't offer that, the least they could do is run 3 shifts at their joint so that I could call at 2 a.m. (which by the way is not bizarre working hours for people in the film profession, especially editors) and get some friggin help!

Well, that's about it for this rant.  Join us again next time when my rant will include the new Indiana Jones movie - or more accurately many of the complaints surrounding it.

Numero Uno

Hello out there in Cyber-Land!

So, I've noticed a few friends doing these bloggy-type things for a while, and I guess I felt like joining in.  Not that I have all that much to say, but maybe I'll surprise myself.

That being said, this is my first blog here.  Nothing spectacular yet, but it's been a pretty regular day.  Got up, checked e-mail, spent most of the day trying to figure out how to get more jobs into my company.  Good times.  Also, got my hair cut so that when I go to finish pick-up shots for 'Preservation' my hair will sorta maybe match.  Other than that, just trying to finish up the work that I DO have deadlines for, and get all of that sorted out.

Anyway, I guess that's about it for the moment.  Hopefully I won't be too lazy and I'll blog here from time to time.

Thanks for reading!  Catch ya later!

Shoot to Thrill,
Rob
